Family day trip

Visiting Isla de Lobos with kids

Lobos can be a simple family day when the plan is shorter than the adult version. Choose a calm crossing, one realistic destination and a return with plenty of margin.

Is Lobos suitable for children?

For many families, yes: the ferry crossing is short and Playa de la Concha is the easiest rewarding destination from the jetty. The island is a protected, exposed landscape rather than a serviced resort, however. There is little reliable shade, no equipment rental and very limited food and drink. A short beach plan is usually more comfortable than the full 7.4 km circuit.

Choose the day, not only the ticket. Strong wind, heat or rough water can turn an easy outing into a tiring one. Check the wind and weather guide before leaving.

Ferry, catamaran or speedboat?

OptionFamily fit
Return ferryMost predictable for young children, pushchairs and an independent beach visit.
CatamaranMore facilities and included food, but a longer fixed experience and time on the water.
Small speedboatBetter for confident older children; the linked product excludes children under two and can be bumpy in wind.

Product-specific age, health and safety rules always override general guidance. Read the live booking page for every child before paying.

A low-stress family itinerary

  1. Arrive at Corralejo port with the check-in margin shown on the voucher.
  2. After landing, walk roughly ten minutes towards Playa de la Concha.
  3. Keep the beach session flexible and supervise children closely around volcanic rock and water.
  4. Return early enough that a slow walk or toilet stop cannot threaten boarding.

Use the free route map, but do not treat the full island loop as the default family plan. El Puertito can be added when energy, temperature and ferry times allow.

Pushchairs, toilets and what to pack

A robust pushchair may help near the jetty, but unpaved and uneven paths make it a transport aid rather than a guarantee of access everywhere. Bring more water and snacks than you expect to use, hats, high-protection sunscreen, swimwear, towels, suitable shoes, a small first-aid kit and any child-specific supplies. There is no rental service on Lobos.

Open the family packing checklist and assume that shade, refreshments and changing facilities will not be available exactly when needed.

Children's fares and official checks

Child prices vary by operator and booking channel. One operator currently publishes a reduced fare for ages 4–11 and free travel for ages 0–3, but the live ticket for your date is definitive. Every visitor who lands still needs to be covered by the applicable visitor authorization process.
