The rule, stated plainly
Access to the Parque Natural del Islote de Lobos is capped at 400 people per day, in two shifts of 200. Every visitor needs an authorization issued by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. There is no legitimate way around that, and anyone selling you a "no permit needed" landing is misdescribing the trip.
Why self-service often fails in summer
LobosPass only opens a short rolling window: on 9 August 2026 it offered five calendar days, 9 to 13 August. We checked every bookable date in that window on that morning. All four — 10, 11, 12 and 13 August — showed Not available for both the 10:00–14:00 morning round and the 14:00–18:00 afternoon round.
That is not a glitch. In July, August and September the free allocation is routinely taken as soon as it opens. If you are already on the island and planning a few days ahead, the self-service route may simply never show you a slot.
What booking with an operator actually changes
Ferry companies and tour operators serving Lobos hold their own allocation and process the authorization for the passengers they carry. Booking one of those options means the paperwork is handled as part of the reservation instead of being a separate race you have to win.
Two things to check before paying, because not every boat is the same:
- Does the option actually land on the island? Some sailing and snorkeling trips circle Lobos without disembarking. That is a legitimate product, but it is not a visit.
- Does the option include the authorization? Read the option name. Where you already hold a permit, the ticket without processing is usually cheaper.
Group sizes and children
LobosPass separates visitors into adult, child under legal age and baby under three years old. Each request covers a limited number of people, so larger parties can end up splitting a booking across several requests — and in a window where slots are already scarce, a group of four is materially harder to place than a couple.

If you cannot get on at all
